Raising Children With Special Needs in the Salvation of the Lord
Pro 14:26 In the fear of the LORD [there is] strong confidence, And His children will have a place of refuge.
The biggest fear parents of special needs children is what will happen to them when the parents have gone Home to be the Lord. Have we prepared them to understand relying on the Lord? Will they be taken care of by someone? What will become of our most prized human beings? Having special needs in the family makes these fears 10-fold because it takes special people to raise them!
God entrusted you with your child. The Lord knew what He was doing when He chose you! God is the One and only being able to know your child better than you! He will ensure the next caregivers are hand-picked through His wisdom! Jer 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations."
The phrase, “Fear not” is in the Bible 176 times (NKJV) for a reason! We have a lot of fears but the Lord is with us, through every heartbreak, through every trial, through every tribulation. He promised never to leave us. He will not leave your children either! He promised! Isa 41:10 Fear not, for I [am] with you; Be not dismayed, for I [am] your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'
God says He holds us in His right hand!! Not only does He hold us, He ‘upholds’ us! He will ensure our children are taken care of, God said ‘I will help you’.
What about understanding? Would if the child with special needs doesn’t understand Salvation? Mar 10:15 "Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." Mat 19:14 But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." God made Salvation for children to understand. It’s adults that have to learn to be more like child-like in it!
Trust in the Lord. Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
If you would like a fun and easy way to learn about Salvation with your child, follow Day 2 to Day 5 of the lessons in the free Fruit of the Spirit Study. http://www.specialneedshomeschool.com/free-fruit-of-the-spirit-study.html It says for ‘Tweens’ but that is for the behavioural part of the lesson.
